PRIDE – The Musical at the Bridge Theatre
We love watching audiences queuing excitedly on Potters Fields Park outside the Bridge Theatre. Since it opened nine years ago, we’ve enjoyed a fantastic range of new plays, Shakespearean classics, musicals and star performances.
Now we’re excited by the arrival of Pride – The Musical from November 12th. Following sold-out runs at the National Theatre and the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, Pride – The Musical transfers to the Bridge Theatre from 12 November. Based on the acclaimed 2014 film, this joyful new musical tells the extraordinary true story of LGBTQ+ activists and striking Welsh miners who found common cause during the 1984 miners’ strike.
Led by 24-year-old activist Mark Ashton, the group forms Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM), raising money and building a relationship with a small mining community in South Wales. What begins as an unlikely partnership between two very different groups gradually develops into a powerful friendship, as both communities discover that they have more in common than they first imagined.
At its heart, Pride is a musical about solidarity, activism and the power of people coming together. It is also a celebration of friendship, community and the unexpected connections that can change people’s lives.
Director Matthew Warchus and writer Stephen Beresford reunite to bring their much-loved film story to the musical theatre stage, while Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen and DJ Walde have created a wonderful score drawing on protest songs, pop, rock, disco and Welsh choral music.
With a multi-talented cast and riding a wave of five-star reviews, Pride sails into the Bridge Theatre until the end of May 2027; you can find out more and book your tickets here.
We can’t wait!
